Hamilton 1883 meets Epaulet

Recently Hamilton Shirts worked on a limited edition collaboration with the very stylish Brooklyn based store named Epaulet. Made exclusively for them, this new shirt is a cool riff on our existing ‘Utility‘ model. Shop owners Mike Kuhle and Adele Berne created the style using fabrics from our custom Hamilton archive and the results turned out really terrific. Gershwin/Wilson

While working on the upcoming 1883 Spring 11 collection, I became very inspired by Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys. I was listening to his music and studying pictures of his style from the 60′s, and getting many inspirational ideas. In a funny coincidence, after explaining the idea to David and Kelly Hamilton, they revealed that their dad loved the Beach Boys and that they even had a pet cat growing up that was named in honor of Brian Wilson.

Brian Wilson is suddenly back again, and he’s arrived with a very surprising project. A new cd has been released (on 8/17) that matches up the unexpected and very strange pairing of Brian Wilson with George & Ira Gershwin – and the idea turns out to be entirely successful. The musical genius of Brian Wilson re-imagines the Gershwin songbook. ‘S Wonderful!

If there is one thing we’ve realized over the years, it’s that an endorsement in GQ magazine goes a very long way.

We were very happy to receive the September issue in the mail and find Hamilton 1883 featured inside! The article that we appear in is called the “New Business Casual” – a terrific guide that shows you how to face a casual workday without looking like a drone. Sharp, well fitting clothes, really DO make the man.

Hamilton Shirts has been saying that for 127 years!

The Mast Brothers, Men’s Journal

If you haven’t noticed, we here at Hamilton Shirts really appreciate craft and the attention to fine detail.

The fascinating chocolatiers - The Mast Brothers – represent the epitome of craft and detail, and we really like what they do. There seems to be a lot of similarity between the Masts and the Hamiltons…we both like great materials/ingredients, we both take the time to make things right, and both companies are run by a pair of siblings!

We were really excited by this credit that just appeared in the recent September issue of Men’s Journal. We like these brothers unique style, and are thrilled that Rick Mast is wearing a Hamilton 1883 shirt. They are just the kind of guy that we love to see in our clothes. So cool!

Hamilton Shirts World Tour 2010

Over the next few weekends Mr. David Hamilton will be spanning the globe! The next two weekends have David conducting Hamilton Shirts trunk shows at various stores around the country.

If you happen to live out in the Pacific Northwest you can stop by and visit with David at the Mario’s store in Portland on Friday (tomorrow 8/20) and at their Seattle store on Saturday (8/21).

The following weekend you’ll be able to meet up with David at Bauman’s in Little Rock, AR on Friday, Aug 27th, and again on Saturday, August 28th.

2010 Vanity Fair Best Dressed List

Over the summer break we were hit with a some really fantastic news. The September issue of Vanity Fair arrived (Lady Gaga cover) and inside their 5th Annual Style issue was The 2010 International Best Dressed List.

While we perusing the list of stylish elite that made the cut, we stumbled across a HAMILTON SHIRT! There right before our eyes on the Best Dressed Men page…was anchor and managing editor of the NBC Nightly News, Brian Williams – and he is wearing one of our bespoke shirts!

Thank you to Brian Williams for choosing our shirts, and a special thank you to our friends at Mitchells on doing such an amazing job making Mr. Williams one of the best dressed men in the world. Our very small contribution really means so much to us.

It’s Lee Fields World

Nicknamed the “Soul Survivor” the veteran R&B singer – Lee Fields - may sound a little bit like the past, but he definitely has his wingtips firmly planted in the future. Maintaining the great traditions of soul music while experimenting with modern sounds, Lee Fields is an all American classic. His voice may remind music fans of great singers like Otis Redding and James Brown, but his latest album “My World” should attract a brand new generation of listeners. I recently had the chance to see Lee Fields perform live along with the incomparable Sharon Jones...and let me tell you it was a show I’ll never forget. He is one cool cat.

There really hasn’t been a full-fledged musical summer anthem for the summer of 2010…so I hereby nominate the Lee Fields tune “Ladies“.

Fun Fun Fun Fest

The new lineup for Austin’s 5th Annual FUN FUN FUN Fest taking place in Waterloo Park has just been released and…GET READY. You could really just stop at just one ‘Fun’…but it actually will take THREE ‘Fun’s’ to accurately describe this list. Are you sitting down?

This years lineup will include: MGMT, DEVO, Mastodon, Bad Religion, Slick Rick, RJD2, A-Trak, GWAR, The Hold Steady, The Dirty Projectors…WEIRD AL YANKOVIC and MORE…

The Fun Fun Fun Festival was created to include “what is bubbling from the underground, what sounds great, and what is making an impact, regardless of what Pollstar or the mainstream media said was cool.” I’ll say. What had once been a two day festival has now been enlarged to three – more days, more bands, more ultimate face-melting music awesomeness!

Robb Walsh’s Top 100

Over on the Houston Press website, noted food writer/critic/historian Robb Walsh, has been slowly releasing his 100 favorite Houston dishes in Houston week by week. His final stand-out meals have added to the list and his slide-show countdown is now totally complete. The exemplary dishes that made the cut were included “because they are such quintessential Houston creations, others because of their cultural or historical significance, and others just because they are so damn tasty.”

In addition to reading through this valuable Houston Press master list, a clever guy by the name of Kyle Nielsen (“sometimes I get really bored at work“) has uploaded all these stats and Google mapped it all out for your dining convenience: Robb Walsh’s Top 100 Houston Dishes, Houston Press.
