Tonight on the National Geographic Channel is this insanely cool new series called Fish Warrior. This “adventure angler” Jakub Vagner travels to extremely remote areas of the world to track down and hunt for very rare and extremely strange species of fish.

Really?

In the premiere episode of the new series, Jakub treks to a super remote area of the Amazon rain forest to search for an Arapaima – a species of fish, virtually unchanged since the Jurassic period, that grows to massive proportions. It looks like the dude is hunting dinosaurs…literally. Even the stressed out narrator refers to the fish as a freshwater leviathan.

This fish is so scary, it even eats birds and monkeys that it finds at the waters surface. Wait until you see what this fish looks like, at one point Mr. Vagner even jumps in the water with it. It’s TOTALLY NUTS!!

Currently airing on cable’s Cooking Channel during the day, The Galloping Gourmet, is a vintage TV show that has to be seen to be believed. This instructional cooking program aired on American television during the late 1960′s, probably as a foil to Julia Childs french cuisine precision.

The globe trotting chef and host, Graham Kerr, selects a dish from his world travels that gets prepared step-by-step in front of a live audience. Famous for his loose and free style, his “hedonism in a hurry” cuisine highlighted a heavy use of eggs, butter, cream, and of course, deep frying. With audience participation, spilling, missing ingredients, dropping stuff on the floor, insanity prevails.

At the start of the show, the Galloping Gourmet comes running out from backstage with a large glass of wine and proceeds to scramble around the room, jumping on, around, and over the furniture on the set. His totally bizarre sense of humor, coupled with what seems to be his on air wasted-ness, has to be seen to be believed. Set your DVR, its awesome.

In a unrelated fashion observation – the big shirt collars on Johnny Carson and Graham Kerr look really great. Don’t they?

The television Emmy nominations were announced today and for the fourth season in a row Friday Night Lights has not garnered a single nomination in the best drama category. According to the New York Times “Apparently the stigma of being a show about the relatively ordinary lives of Texans obsessed with high school football is still too much to overcome.”

Even still, F.N.L. is one of the best shows on TV and one of Hamilton Shirts all time favorites…THIS TOTALLY SUCKS. Don’t you agree?

Hamilton Shirts has World Cup fever and it FINALLY seems like the rest of the country does too. When this past Saturdays game of USA vs. England took place, soccer seemed to finally be getting the attention it deserves here at home. At my last job (before Hamilton) I was required to travel to Europe this time of year – and all I can say is that only a Texas football game comes close to the type of fan frenzy that occurs over there. I was always a little sad that the United States never seemed to get behind our soccer team to cheer on with the fervor that they exhibit overseas. Until now!

With so many different nationalities working here at Hamilton Shirts we could watch games everyday to cheer along with our co-workers, and we’ll be following all the results closely. Watching the games from that beautiful Soccer City Stadium in South Africa have been really exciting, its hard to imagine that not that long ago the thought of something like the World Cup taking place there would have been next to impossible. Amazing!

For a list of all the best places to watch the World Cup games here in Houston, check out this great list over on Houston Citysearch.

Airing June 22nd on TNT at 10pm, a new program called Memphis Beat will definitely be a show to watch – and for many good reasons. The new night time drama features a Memphis cop, played by Jason Lee, who moonlights as an Elvis impersonator that still lives with his mother. He also likes guitars and whiskey. This sounds like my kind of show!

Jason Lee is such a great actor – I’ve been a fan of his since the early nineties when he started appearing in tons of cool stuff such as…Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Almost Famous, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, Dogma, and of course most recently, TV’s Earl. The new show also stars the fantastic Alfre Woodard as demanding boss, Lt. Tanya Rice, and costars the very recognizable character actor DJ Qualls as Jasons protégé, Sutton.

We also received some advance word here at Hamilton Shirts HQ that we are really going to like what Jason will be wearing on the show…we can’t wait to see. There is a certain blue shirt in the above picture that looks kind of familiar!

Last week the groundbreaking film Lilies of the Field was on Turner Classic Movies and I got to thinking how Sidney Poitier, while one of the greatest actors of our time, is often overlooked for his impeccable style. Whenever you read about best dressed screen icons…its always the same list: Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, Steve McQueen, only rarely is Mr. Poitier included. I did a little digging around and came up with photo after elegant photo. As you can see here, his understated classic style remains completely consistent throughout his entire sixty year career.

Has there ever been a classier gentleman?
