Pattern Play – Texas Monthly – Nov. 11

Friday, November 4, 2011

Texas Monthly takes a look at the various men’s & women’s prints in play for fall and features a fall 1883 shirt in their current November issue. Sadly, this style sold out so fast we never even had a chance to post it to the website. One of the very first new styles we introduced for the season, the shirt was exclusive to our Houston store and was snapped up by all our lucky Texan shoppers. If you are looking for something similar… the Shadow Shirt (a heavier weight) and the navy Buffalo Shadow Plaid (& burgundy version) both have a similar vibe.

This picture also reminds me a funny quote by Hamilton friend and menswear style-guru, Nick Wooster, who stated “camouflage pattern is to men what leopard spots are to women”. Very clever!!

Thunder Soul

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

This looks great – a new documentary about band director Conrad Johnson and Houston’s Kashmere High School Stage Band circa 1970′s. I can’t wait to see it!

“Presented by Jamie Foxx, THUNDER SOUL follows the extraordinary alumni from Houston’s storied Kashmere High School Stage Band, who return home after 35 years to play a tribute concert for the 92-year-old “Prof,” their beloved band leader who broke the color barrier and transformed the school’s struggling jazz band into a world-class funk powerhouse in the early 1970s.”

Release dates and theater locations can be found here.

New York Times Restaurant Report – El Real

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

El Real Tex Mex, the site of occasional Hamilton Shirt Co. after work margaritas and sometimes ‘business’ dinners was just discovered by The New York Times. Our favorite local watering hole was featured in the Times travel pages as a Houston must stop for real-deal Tex Mex cuisine. Steeped in Texas tradition by chef Bryan Caswell along with James Beard winning cookbook author Robb Walsh, regional favorites are served up with lots of authentic pedigree. The best part of the article?

“But ask Mr. Caswell what makes his tortillas and refried beans so good and his answer is pure tradition: “lard — we render our own lard from heritage pigs. The flavor is great and it’s healthier than hydrogenated lard.”

DELICIOUS!

Hamilton Shirt Co in Houston will be closed from August 1st through the 12th for our annual summer vacation. The break is a long held (and much beloved) company tradition; we’ll be back soon with a few website updates and some new shirt style introductions for Fall/Winter 2011.

The blog updates might be a little more sporadic – but look for some new entries to pop up here and there!

See you soon.
