The Homesick Texan Cookbook

Monday, August 22, 2011

Even though I don’t cook at home very often, I do enjoy flipping through beautiful cookbooks.

This brand new title written by the author of one of my favorite food blogs “Homesick Texan” is a hardback edition that will include 125 of the websites best recipes- and it’s sure to be fantastic. “The Homesick Texan Cookbook” by chef/writer/photographer Lisa Fain, was initially created online to share all her favorite foods that reminded her of her Texas roots after she moved away to New York City. From the books jacket:

After a fruitless search for tastes of Texas in New York City, Fain took matters into her own hands. She headed into the kitchen to cook for her friends the Tex-Mex, the chili, and the country comfort dishes that reminded her of home. From cheese enchiladas drowning in chili gravy to chicken-fried steak served with cream gravy on the side, from warm bowls of chile con queso to big pots of fiery chili made without beans, Fain re-created the wonderful tastes of Texas she’d always enjoyed at potlucks, church suppers, and backyard barbecues back home.”

Coming out September 13th, but available now as a pre-order, this is one cookbook that no Texan (or non-Texan) kitchen should be without.

Today the Hamilton 1883 blog is two years old.

Hard to believe that its been over two years since we started to work on this idea for a Hamilton ready-to-wear collection. Maintaining this blog is a fun part of the day and today marks our FOUR HUNDRED AND NINETY FIFTH POST!

Happy Second Anniversary 1883!

Spring Kit N° 9

Monday, May 23, 2011

A new kit from Free/Man has appeared…and this latest round up of must-have items looks pretty sharp for spring. It’s a seasonal grouping of goods that look good & we are happy to report one of our Hamilton 1883 white oxfords made the cut. I really like the darker fall-like color palate, and I especially like those dark green TBS/Mark McNairy crepe sole shoes.

To find out the make/model of all the items that appear…check out the full post on the Free/Man site here.

What I Bought Today

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Some of our favorite things just collided together into the form of Unionmade Goods new spring catalog. The lookbook takes on a new vibe by featuring the illustrations of menswear blogger Richard Haines instead of the usual formula of featuring photography. By using friends and shop customers as their models, the catalog becomes a terrific manual on how real people interpret the shops clothes.

In addition to his original outpost in San Francisco, the proprietor of Unionmade Goods Todd Barket, has recently opened a new store within the Brentwood Country Mart in Los Angeles. Good news for Hamilton, you’ll be able to find our 1883 shirts at both of these great locations.

Check our spring/summer ‘Galveston’ white speckled shirt featured here:

Stylites

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Each and everyday our world grows a little smaller as the proliferation of websites like tumblr, twitter, wordpress, and blogger, make sharing words and images as easy as checking your facebook page. How fascinating would it be to find a blog where you can see how people are dressing in China?

We’ll I’ve found one…and its called Stylites and it’s pretty great. The author/photographer Nels Frye is based in Beijing, but frequent posts from Hong Kong pop up as well. An interesting look at how people are interpreting fashion on the other side of our planet. Check it out here.

FREE/MAN Kit #12 Just Around the Corner

Sunday, March 13, 2011

Here is a great style blog to check out, just in case you haven’t stumbled across it already. It’s cryptically called FREE/MAN – There’s A Story Here. They feature lots of clothes & gear, including these ‘Kits‘, which are terrific round-ups of seasonal cool stuff. I have a LOVE/HATE relationship with these…love, because I can discover lots of new and different products (the most recent includes our 1883 shirt in Kit #12) and hate because it just enlarges my ridiculously huge shopping wish list EVEN MORE. I always end up wanting everything.

Thanks to FREE/MAN for including us, and check out the cool website HERE.

Check out this image below shared with us by MISTER MORT from twitter, one of our most cherished customers. If you haven’t had the chance to check out his irreverent street style blog, do it now here.

In the photo below Mr. Mordechai Rubinstein is wearing a custom Hamilton Shirt, Levis jeans (where he works), matched but mismatched cufflinks, and tons of his usual personal swagger.

Houstons Hottest Chef

Friday, May 28, 2010

Over on the Houston Press Food Blog “Eating Our Words” they are currently running a contest to decide upon who will be Houston’s Hottest Chef. They’ve narrowed the field down to about 10 nominees – five ladies and five gents.

According to the article it sounds like Houston Press went about obtaining photos of all the finalists all craftylike. By clipping real candid pictures from Facebook and twitter, the potential candidates weren’t be able to get a well-turned leg up on the competition by submitting some glossy beauty shots. Nominees come from restaurants all over the city – the ladies from:  Calliope’s Po-Boys, Jodycakes, t’afia, Feast, Zelko Bistro – and the guys from: Mo’s A Place for Steaks, Stella Sola, Reef, Hubcap Grill, and Yelapa Playa Mexicana.

Have a look at all the pictures on the Houston Press website and vote! Which chef’s face will reign supreme?

@DRUNKHULK

Thursday, April 22, 2010

One of my favorite things about twitter is the fact you never know what might pop up next. I started following @DRUNKHULK a couple weeks ago, and he seriously is one of the funniest fake sloshed cartoon superheroes that you’d ever want to read about. You can even follow DRUNKHULK on google buzz.

DRUNKHULK might be fictitious, he might be green, he might be inebriated, he might even be a little literary, but one things for sure – he’s totally hilarious.

Some favorite sample tweets:
