Not Hot Enough?

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

I’ll confess to you one of my (many) food addictions. When I first tried Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce my tastebuds exploded with joy, and I’ve kept a bottle nearby ever since. This Asian American creation is often thought of as a Thai condiment but its actually a mixture of all kinds of ingredients with their roots in all sorts of places. Originally created back in the 80′s as an Asian answer to Heinz 57, this universal tasty sauce is made from sun ripened chilis, sugar, salt, garlic, and vinegar. Fantastically versatile, Sriracha is the everyday condiment served both on lowly food trucks to four star restaurants. If you haven’t had a chance to try it, definitely pick up a green topped bottle as soon as you can.

Sriracha is available nowadays at many grocery stores, or specialty Asian or gourmet markets. If you are having a hard time finding it, you can order it direct from Amazon or from the manufacturers own website HERE.

  1. Nice find. I’ll try it out when I get a chance. I feel the same way about maple syrup. Ever since I tried the real stuff, I always keep a bottle in my apartment. I don’t even mess with that thick stuff I grew up on anymore.

  2. oh yeah!! We call that “Rooster Sauce” in our house, mostly because I cannot pronounce Sriracha well enough to order it from the grocer in California in the 80′s. When I asked for it by “Rooster Sauce,” they knew exactly what I wanted. Lovely stuff…
