In business since the 1960′s, Anderson Fair Retail Restaurant is one of the oldest folk and original music venues in continuous operation in the United States. Hosting such performers as Lyle Lovett and Lucinda Williams, the place has a very long history of hosting many esteemed troubadours of the genre. For over 40 years the place has operated under the same basic format that was employed when the club first originally opened.
Artists performing here try out new material to see if the serious and rapt “AFair” crowd will approve or disapprove of what they are listening to. Performers try and hone their craft while giving themselves a shot at musical stardom. Many of the performances are recorded here – check out some of the cd’s that are available of current and past performers. Known for its excellent acoustics, the small club can only host about 80 people.
Upcoming shows include performances by Ray Bonneville, Dana Cooper, Jason Eady, and Idgy Vaughn. Every Thursday night the club hosts “Songwriter Showcase in the Round” with Ken Gaines and Wayne Wilkerson. Advance tickets for many of the shows can be purchased at YourTexasMusic.com.
