Panaderia Arandas
Monday, December 21, 2009
My very good friend Pamela has just arrived into Houston from rainy Seattle, to spend some time with her family here in Texas for the holidays. On her way in from the airport, before she even sees her Mom & Dad, she makes a beeline to visit her favorite Panaderia Arandas Authentic Mexican Bakery. A small chain of four bakeries located all over Houston, they specialize in all kinds of baked Mexican delicacies from the owners hometown of Arandas, in the west coast state of Jalisco, Mexico.
The very first bakery was started in 1993 as a source of bread to make tortas in their original venture Tacquerias Arandas. Once they got underway, they began to think about breaking into the bakery industry. So now with these four locations, its seems like the rest was history!
Pamela filled me in on some of her favorite Arandas treats – the best coconut macaroons, the exceptional baguette style bread used for tortas, and a display case filled with whimsical, jewel like pastries in all kinds of shapes and sizes. They stock all kinds of Mexican sodas (popular cause they are often made with better tasting cane sugar) and perfect for the holidays, Nestle Abuelita products- excellent for making delicious slightly cinnamon hot chocolates.
