The Texas Tribune

Thursday, October 1, 2009

In the midst of all the grim news that we hear about the American news business, an unlikely spark has arrived in Austin with the announcement of the start-up The Texas Tribune. A new non-profit, nonpartisan public media organization, whose mission is “to promote civic engagement and discourse on public policy, politics, government, and other matters of statewide concern.” They will accomplish these tasks in two ways “First, through the original journalism that we’ll report, write, compile, record, shoot, etc., and post online at our destination site, texastribune.org, and in the pages and on the sites of our distribution partners. Second, through on-the-record, open-to-the-public events: conversation series featuring elected officials and other newsmakers, conferences on major topics of interest to every Texan, an annual ideas festival, and the like.”

Sounds promising! This is a news source that looks like it will be a fresh and interesting take on what’s happening in our state, and around the world..and its set to launch late 2009. Check out their website for more information at: texastribune.org
