The Classic American Style of Buddy Holly

Born in Lubbock, Texas, Buddy Holly became the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll. Originally playing on country music recordings with Bob Montgomery, Buddy easily transitioned from early rockabilly to creating some of the deepest roots of rock and roll. With a career that only lasted a year and half, he was an early trailblazer of recording artists that exercised creative control over their own music. Buddy was also a trailblazer in terms of his personal style. His neatly buttoned up suits and sharp haircuts were a very appealing contrast to the controversial Elvis Presley. My favorite aspect of his all American style has to be his large heavy eyeglasses. Quite extreme on his young face, these big distinctive frames have to be his single most defining feature of his classic look from the 1950′s.
Here is one of Buddy’s most famous tunes, That’ll Be the Day, based on a quote uttered by John Wayne in the classic western, The Searchers.
