The Midtown Market
Friday, August 21, 2009
Every Saturday in the parking lot of t’afia restaurant is the fantastic Midtown Farmers Market hosted by Houston Chef, Monica Pope. Nominated as one of the James Beards Best Chefs/Southwest in 2007, Ms. Pope has also been recently named as one of the top six taste-makers in Texas by Saveur Magazine. The market features such great items as locally farm grown produce from over 20 nearby farms, hand-baked breads, drug free meats, free range eggs, and Texas made cheeses.
Buying locally grown produce means some of the freshest and best tasting food you can find. If you never tried it, it will change how you food shop forever. One of the best parts of getting to the market early, are the free tickets that are distributed at 9am for a cooking class taught by Chef Pope starting at 9:30. The Green Plum Cooking School classes are limited to only 40 people so it would be wise to get there on the early side. You can check out whats going on each week, or recipes you’ve missed out over on the t’afia facebook page.
The Midtown Farmers Market, 3701 Travis Street, one block north of W. Alabama. Parking in the two lots north of restaurant t’afia.
